This solution has been tested.
SPORT 6.25 generated player.csv files are not backward compatible with SPORT 6.23 or earlier versions. The resultant error being that all players other than the first occurrences, bearing a similar surname are ignored, thus greatly reducing the number of imported records.
All exported player.csv files can be modified with Microsoft Excel® or another compatible program as long as a CSV file format is accepted and saved.
The suggested work-around works both ways and involves replacing the header row with either of those provided in the sport_headers.xls file available for download below.

At the time of writing Microsoft had not provided a patch that would enable Windows 10 to read older help files contained within older programs.
The following procedure will enable Windows 10 to read the sport.hlp file without error:
Now Windows 10 will have had installed the winhlp32.exe file and accepted it, allowing you to view SPORT help contents from within the program.

Make a copy and rename the player.csv file to be modified.
Open the renamed player.csv and the downloaded sport_headers.xls file.
Copy the entire row of the desired header from sport_headers.xls by selecting the row number then select the first row of the renamed player.csv and paste the new header into position.
Save the modified player.csv file.
Download the cab folder on to your desktop using the
Create a new folder and expand the cab folder into it.
Right click the install.cmd file and select "edit".
Add the following lines to the end of ":: Settings":
Save the install.cmd file and then right click and select "run as administrator".
Respond to the command window requests.
